     Caelum:

A Stars English language:  From tutor: Learn following spellings and write sentences to illustrate their meanings:

biscuits,  allegiance,  accommodate,  occurred,  eligible,  colossal, insatiable, centenary, whose,  who’s

Learn following spellings and write each plural in a sentence. Make sentences as interesting as possible.

potato – potatoes,   tomato – tomatoes,  hero – heroes,  echo – echoes,  chief – chiefs,  belief beliefs,  roof – roofs,  cliff – cliffs,  chef – chefs,  mango – mangoes,  torpedo – torpedoes,  volcano – volcanoes,  cargo – cargoes,  halo – haloes

Noo-Noo’s made flash cards of each spelling and stuck them on his draws, she did this last week and it has seemed to work very well.   Caelum has written sentences for these words, containing the meaning and plurals: halo, cargo, volcano, torpedo, tomato, mango, chief, cliff, roof, potato, belief, chief, echo, hero, who’s, whose,  occurred,  biscuits, colossal.

Noo-Noo’s did check this and he hadn’t got it quite right, she tried to explain this to him but he went on a massive temper session, eventually he calmed down and tried it again. These do need checking as I’m unable to see to check. Caelum has still got to finish this off, however he says he needs to look up the meanings of: allegiance, accommodate,  eligible, insatiable, centenary.

He also has to finish off cargo and halo.

Science: 5 to 10 of the chemical symbols, the atomic numbers and mass numbers

Caelum now knows these, we have also watched videos on each element.

Science weather diary.

Tobi only did 1 day of his diary last week, we’ve done today’s.

Science: Tobi has done an outline of himself,  he has yet to put the details on it and label the parts on it.

Tobi has just about finished this, however we ran out of time, he has done a couple of extra labels, e.g. forehead.

English:  Tobi gets mixed up with C – S   and  J – G

Tobi’s Struggling with sounds F, L, M, N, Q, V, X,  Z

We’ve gone through these and Tobi got them all right, he even gave us words that begins with each letter.

When Tobi returned from A Stars I was doing the periodic table with Caelum, I found a very good video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdXuSftZELQ  Caelum wasn’t really interested, however Tobi was, so Tobi watched it and really paid attention! Afterwards Noo-Noo’s asked him what was the first 5 elements on the periodic table were and he told her!!!!!!!! Quick lunch then back to A Stars for English, then Gym Bobs and A Stars again for Science, I think he deserves a treat after this!

     Tobi:

Science: Do weather diary.

Tobi did really well on his diary. He even used a ruler to do the lines for writing on his own.

Finish labelling body parts on image.

Tobi did this with minimal help. He had a sheet with all the names of the parts on so he read them and copied the words in the correct places. Then he coloured the picture in.

Maths homework: Practise counting and writing in tens from 100 to 200, 10 more, 10 less twenty more twenty less that would be great. Also , if time, reading and writing words for numbers 1-12 , one two three etc.

Tobi started by counting from 100 to 200 in tens. He was a little confused to begin with and kept saying 110 was eleven thousand. However he quickly got it and didn’t make that mistake again. He then had to count 10 more/less and 20 more/less. He got all my questions right. I then got him to write from 100 to 200 in tens and again no problem. His writing and formation of the numbers was really good as well. I then wrote down some questions for him to do (more/less questions). I just read the first one to him but he did the rest and didn’t need any help at all. He got 3 wrong out of 16 but tried those 3 again and got them right. He really enjoyed this work and was a star during the lesson. We then tried reading the words for the first 12 numbers. He had obviously used up all his goodness because he blew his top. After he had calmed down he did a little bit of reading but because he took so long to calm down we will have to finish it off tomorrow as we have run out of time.

English:  Just ‘check’ Tobi doesn’t get mixed up with C – S   and  J – G. Also  ‘check’ Tobi knows these sounds F, L, M, N, Q, V, X,  Z.

He got the sounds of C+S fine but had a little trouble with their names. Especially S. Same with J+G. Especially G. Tobi knew the sounds of F, L, M, N, Q, V, X, Z but needs a bit of work on their names. Especially Q, L, V.

    Caelum:

From Monday’s English homework: Caelum has written sentences for these words, containing the meaning and plurals: halo, cargo, volcano, torpedo, tomato, mango, chief, cliff, roof, potato, belief, chief, echo, hero, who’s, whose,  occurred,  biscuits, colossal.

Noo-Noo’s did check this and he hadn’t got it quite right, she tried to explain this to him but he went on a massive temper session, eventually he calmed down and tried it again. These do need checking as I’m unable to see to check. Caelum has still got to finish this off, however he says he needs to look to the meanings of: allegiance, accommodate,  eligible, insatiable, centenary.

He also has to finish off cargo and halo.

Caelum went through all the sentences with me and corrected them where necessary. He then looked up Allegiance, Accommodate, Eligible, Insatiable and Centenary. He still didn’t really understand some of them so we looked them up together. He then had no problem writing some sentences for them. The word cargo was a bit of problem as he could think how to use the word in its plural form, Cargoes. He knew what it meant he just couldn’t think of a sentence he could use it in its proper context. We ended up googling it and looking up examples where it is used in a sentence. He then came up with his own sentence when he finally understood it. He did really well as there was a lot to get through.

He then did a spelling test on all the words and only got 8 wrong out of something like 37. Considering he only got the words yesterday that’s not bad at all. Later he redid the ones he got wrong and he got them all right so he knows them.

A Stars English Literature. He joined up with a GCSE group and really enjoyed it. Apparently he showed them up so he is very happy!

reading and writing words for numbers 1-12 , one two three etc.

Tobi has been a superstar all day with his work. He started by writing his weather diary and worked out the date and everything and the spellings all on his own.

I made some flash cards with the words for numbers 1 – 12. He read them all with nearly no problems. Just struggled with ‘eight’ a little but nothing big. I made some work sheets for him to do. The first was numbers for words and I muddled the order up but he got them all right and didn’t need any help at all. The second was words for numbers. He struggles with the spellings of these so I kept them in order this time. He did some completely on his own so that was really good but needed a little help with some. He got a couple of letters the wrong way round on some and others he had no idea on. He looked through the flash cards and got the spelling from them for the couple he didn’t know. He did so well and was a superstar.

English Homework: researching ‘The Charge Of The Light Brigade’.

Caelum did some research on The Charge Of The Light Brigade. He learnt it was in 1856. It was written six weeks after the event. They went into battle even though they knew the outcome wasn’t going to be good because of the Generals orders. Their original mission was supposed to be taking a battery that was not well guarded but instead they charged a very well guarded one.

Swamp monsters. They have a set each where you can grow swamp monsters. I think its just like sea monkeys. They read the instructions then set the tanks up. They have one each. Tobi was so excited about this but unfortunately they have to wait for tomorrow to be able to put the eggs in. We then googled swamps and did a bit of research on them on wikipedia. We discussed it for a bit then looked at some pictures of swamps.

Weather diary

Tobi did this all on his own. I didn’t have to help at all as he even worked out the spellings his own. He seems to be really enjoying this so maybe do some more like it.

He practised writing and reading words for numbers again. He did really well with this and he did even more of it without help than he did yesterday so that’s a really good improvement.

Started learning a new card game, solitaire.

Tobi did some work on line on the BBC bitesize site. He did some science and literacy games. Making up sentences. He enjoys this as it is fun but we have found it is still challenging him.

     Caelum:

Maths homework:  on the OCSD interactive games – Maths Magic – he needs to do Level 2 Multiplication.

Caelum had a good go on this and he got all of them right. However when the timer was getting low and he was on number 34 he said it was impossible for him to do 100 in 5 minutes. You have to be a wizard on the keyboard as well as knowing the times tables straight off. So I found him some other multiplication games to do.

He read the second chapter of animal farm.

Caelum needed a confidence boost today so when Tobi was at a stars I had a delivery. It was a clothes rail. He unpacked it and put it together all on his own. The instructions were in tatters so he had to figure out how to do it as well. He really enjoyed this and felt like he’d accomplished something which made him feel a lot better about himself.
