     Caelum:

Caelum did his English homework today.   He did some Geography on mountains, volcanoes and earthquakes, we used this site:  http://www.rgs.org/OurWork/Schools/Teaching+resources/Key+Stage+1-2+resources/Subject+knowledge+animation+Mountains+volcanoes+and+earthquakes.htm

     Tobi:

Uncle Joe took Tobi to get his hair cut today. We made sure he had a lot of food before he went to A Stars for English and Maths because apparently Tobi kept telling A Stars that he was hungry so they fed him! He’s eating loads lately! I even sent him with a wrap and a fruit role today!

From A  Stars: Today we recapped on previously learnt sounds and learnt eg words for ur, ir, er words. We read a story, the greedy green gremlin to consolidate all ways of making an ee sound , and did a couple of sentences with correct letter formation.
For hw could Tobi complete consolidation of ai, ay and a-e words on wksheet plus complete ai word crossword.
We starts science topic light and dark, as an optional extra hw Tobi could go to topmarks science ks1 and repeat light source activity and quiz…..good reading practise too!

                                          Tuesday:
     Tobi:

Tobi did some history today. Him and Caelum started learning about the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and all the kings at that time. Tobi did well remembering it but it was a bit of a challenge to keep him focused. He watched a video with Joe and Caelum but he didn’t like it. He said there was a couple of bad words in it and a bit of  blood. When I asked Joe about this he said the words weren’t that bad and Tobi was just over reacting to it. The video was just a bit old for him, that’s the challenge when teaching 2 children in different age groups to each other. Tobi came back to me as we soon realized they were going to do better separately. I found a couple of more child-friendly videos for Tobi to watch but surprisingly he wasn’t that interested and responded better to me just telling him and us chatting about it. We printed off some masks for him so he can do some role play about the battle but I couldn’t find the laminator so we haven’t done that yet, hopefully tomorrow. We printed off a landscape picture of the hill and he stuck some knights and things on it. He really enjoyed that and got really into it. He wasn’t great at concentrating today but when questioned about it he was mostly able to give the right answer so something went in.

    Caelum:

Caelum did most of his work with Joe today. Like Tobi he to started to learn about the battle of Hastings in 1066 and the things that happened around it. They seemed to be doing OK but as I wasn’t with them I can’t go into details about it. Caelum answered most of the questions and the whole family has been talking about it all day and helped to teach him. He hasn’t had a break from it all day. He has watched a video on it and he did this with Tobi and Joe. I know him and Joe looked up some stuff on the internet and Caelum seemed to enjoy this. All day everyone has been quizzing him and adding little bits here and there. He has been good as he has had a lot of information thrown at him today. Over the next couple of days we will reinforce it so he properly understands it all.

Caelum is still doing really well behaviour wise and temperament wise. He just seems to have more self confidence and just being generally happier in himself. He still doesn’t wake up unless woken though.

                                      Wednesday:
     Tobi:

This morning we asked Tobi some questions on what we learnt yesterday, he remembered the name of the battle, the year, who fort, why and who won!

He then did some ICT on bussythings.com, the 6-7 section was too hard and he was getting pretty stressed over it so I put him on the 5-6 section, he found this challenging but manageable. Tobi then played a maths game on the same site and this pushed him a bit but he did it and didn’t loose his temper!

     Caelum:

Caelum coloured in some pages of the Battle of Hastings. Played a maths game online with Tobi and he was very good explaining to Tobi how he was working the sums out and this seemed to click with Tobi just a bit.

We did some Geography, looked at Europe, the different countries, populations, climates and Asia being the largest in Europe, we also looked at different trees that grow where and so on eg the largest river.

                                         Thursday:
     Tobi:

We did some more work on the Battle of Hastings today. Tobi has remembered a lot but has had a bit of trouble with the names. He remembers the gist of it but the details are a little difficult for him. We have gone through the events before and after the battle and how William the Conqueror took over. We will need to go over this in more detail but he has the general idea down.

A Stars they said he was very good today.

     Caelum:

We did some more work on the Battle of Hastings and the surrounding events today. Caelum has remembered a lot and we have been able to fill in some gaps in his knowledge of it. We have gone through the events in order and have discussed them at length. He did really well this morning but struggled a little this afternoon with concentration, although he wasn’t naughty or anything. We went through the three main people who fought over being king after King Edward died and the battle at Stanford Bridge. We have looked it all up on a map so he can try and get an impression for how far these armies had to go. We discussed the way King William ruled over the land and how he divided it up. Caelum got this as we were able to use the example of people renting a house but not having overall ownership of that house just the day to day running of it. He really got it then and enjoyed learning all about it. the History book we have been using Letts KS3 History complete study and revision guide. We have actually been using this book for Tobi as well but simply simplifying the subject and bringing in things like pictures and acting it out to help him.

                                             Friday:
     Caelum:

Caelum was really tired to begin with this morning so rather than start with the English like I was going to I started with the Science which he likes. Caelum had to do the practice questions 1 and 2 on page 47. He did this all with nearly no trouble and only needed help with the meaning of the word symptoms. He was nice and quick with this.

He then learnt the elements 11-20 in the Periodic Table. He did well with this and even got the atomic number and mass number for each when I quizzed him. Not sure how long he will be able to remember this for though he should try and practice this again.

He then had to write a speech to a group of school governors arguing the pros and cons of school uniform. He had to consider a balanced argument and a clear conclusion. When we were chatting about it he did really well and had some good ideas but when it came to writing it it was a completely different story. He just stared at the screen for ages doing nothing. I tried everything but he was even trying. I gave him a 5 minute break as I had run out of ideas by that time. When he came back he was a bit better. He managed to do it in the end but it wasn’t his best.

 Tobi:
Tobi completed consolidation of ai, ay and a-e words worksheet. He did well but it took a while. He said a couple of times that he couldn’t find the a in the words and decided he couldn’t do it. However he was soon persuaded otherwise and was OK with it for a few minutes before he decided he couldn’t do it again.
He then did a crossword with the sound ai. He did this nearly all on his own and just needed a little help with the reading. He got a little muddled here and there. It took him a while again but he did get it there in the end.
Tobi did the extra hw given which was topmarks science ks1 and repeat light source activity and quiz. He did the activity all on his own nice and quick with no help but needed a little help with the reading of the questions on the quiz. He answered them all himself though.
